To create a new mail to send to everyone in your synagogue, or to target a specific group of people, go to the Admin Menu, click on Mail and then "Create New Mail."
On Step One, select the Announcement mailing list, and then select continue.
When you come to Step Two, a mailing list of everyone subscribed to the Announcement list will automatically load. If you want to send this email to everyone, simply click continue on the top right side.
However, if you want to target only a specific group of people, you must first clear the list, and then click on Advanced Targeting.
Once you open Advanced Targeting, you can customize your list using a number of different filters: by Account Type, Minyan, Person Type, Age Range, Tag, Email or Mailing Address status, and by enrollment in a course (school module only). Once you have set your filter, click on "Add This Filter to Recipient List" to generate your recipients.
Step Three gives you several options for the mailing:
- Type of Email: Plain Text (no formatting options), Rich Text (allows you to adjust the text, add images, and format the email in many different ways) or HTML Responsive Email (gives you the option of using a template with advanced functionality built in).
- Confirmation Email address: will send a confirmation message once the email is complete.
- Override Email: will send every single email to this address instead of the recipient list specified in Step 2.
- Post Message to Blog: If your site has a CMS page set to be a blog, you can post this email as a post on that page.
- Delayed Send: Allows you to decide if you want to start processing the mail immediately or schedule it to start processing later.
- Tag: If you use mail tags, you can tag your mailing here.
Use the links in the sidebar of this page to read about the Mail Builder. The Mail Builder will give you more styling options, and is designed to be mobile-responsive.
Step Four is the body of your message - you can use the list of tags on the left to personalize your mailing. Tags like [first_name] will address the email to the recipient. You can also use the tag [login_link] to create a personalized link for people to log in to their account, or the tag [custom_login_link] to send people to a specific page (an event or form) while logged in.
Please note - you can insert images in the body of the email only - you cannot insert a PDF. Additionally, you cannot send attachments through the mailer. You will need to upload the file to wish to attach to the files section, and then you can paste the link into your email.
If you have signed up to participate in the Jewish Ad Network, you will see the option to insert ads or not on Step Five. You can choose where on the email you want the ad displayed, or you can choose to leave ads out of the email.
Step Six is your confirmation page. You can review the subject, text, email sent and mail tags. If you need to make an adjustment, simply click on "Step 4: Message" on the top and you can edit the email. You can also send yourself a test email, which will take one random recipient and send you their email as if you were them. If you send yourself more than one test email, you will continue to receive emails for the same recipient.
Clicking on send will start processing your email and then send. You can then go back to the main mail page, and next to your completed mailing, you can see options for more details or cloning. Clicking more details will give you information about how many people received the email, bounces, and clicks. Clicking clone will allow you to recreate your email to send again.
