Payments via Apple Tap to Pay

Introduction

ShulCloud Mobile Admin App for iOS (version 3.0 or later) users can use Apple Tap to Pay on iPhone to collect credit card payments without additional hardware. Payers "tap to pay" via Apply Pay on their Apple iOS device or a card supporting contactless payment (indicated by mceclip2.png on its face). 

Prerequisites

To use Apple Tap to Pay, a ShulCloud admin needs the following:

  1. A US site using Shulware Integrated Payments for credit card payment processing
  2. An Apple iPhone XS or newer running iOS 16.0 or later 
  3. ShulCloud Mobile Admin App for iOS 3.0 or later
  4. Sufficient admin permissions to collect the desired type of payment

Payment via Apple Tap to Pay

An Apple Tap to Pay payment starts like any other credit card payment.  After logging in:

  1. Tap Add Transaction on the main menu
  2. Tap Skip for a public payment or search for and select a desired account holder
  3. Tap the type of payment transaction to add (limited by permission as shown above)
  4. Toggle Use a Credit Card to ON (green)

Next, follow these steps to collect the payment using Apple Pay:

  1. Toggle Use Tap to Pay to ON (green) — the screen updates to show an Apple reader
  2. Enter additional payment details such as amount and/or charge type 
  3. Tap Next
  4. Answer YES to the Ready to Proceed question
  5. Hold the iPhone or contactless credit card to the top of the screen as directed

 

Success

When the device or card has been read, your iPhone will vibrate and/or show a blue firework animation. The payment then processes. You will see a "Success" message when it completes. You can answer YES to the question to take another payment or NO to return to the app main menu. 

Failure

In either of these cases, you will be offered a change to try again or cancel:

  • Error reading the card (the animation will be red)
  • Timeout after 30 seconds without a successful read

Apple Tap to Pay Fees

At this time, ShulCloud is not collecting from clients the fee charged to ShulCloud by Apple to use Apple Tap to Pay.
