Yahrzeit emails are reminders sent in advance of a Yahrzeit date. These messages help notify those connected to a deceased individual and can also include prompts for memorial donations.
- The yahrzeit reminder is only sent to individuals marked as “mourner” to the deceased in the Yahrzeit record.
- A valid email address must be listed for the mourner.
- If multiple Yahrzeits are connected to one person, all applicable observances can be included in a single email per lifecycle.
Email Settings Options
- Days Before Reminder: Set how many days in advance the reminder email should be sent.
- Email Subject and Message: Customize the email's subject line and body text.

Include Merge Tags: Use the following tags to personalize the message:
- {yahrzeit_name} – Displays the deceased’s name
- {yahrzeit_date} – Gregorian date of Yahrzeit
- {yahrzeit_hebrew_date} – Hebrew date of Yahrzeit
- {yahrzeit_relationship} – Relationship to the deceased
Creating a Yahrzeit Notification Email
The {yahrzeit_email_url} token creates a link to view full Yahrzeit details online.
Step 1: Select 'Email'
Step 2: Select Lifecycles list
Allows specification of who will get the email. Choose to send to anyone within a specified time frame by selecting "Add All Subscribers" or Utilize the filtering options by selecting "Advanced Targeting" and choosing your filters:

- Type of Email: Rich Text (adjust text, add images, and format the email in many different ways) or MailBuilder (use a template with advanced functionality built in).
- Confirmation Email Address: will send a confirmation message once the email is complete.
- Override Email: will send every single email to this address instead of the recipient list specified in Step 2.
- Post Message to Blog: If the site has a CMS page set to be a blog, the email can be posted as a post on that page.
- Delayed Send: Determine if the mail should process immediately or schedule it to start processing later.
- Tag: Add a mail tag.
Step 4:
Build the body of the yahrzeit message. There are over a dozen different lifecycle tags on the left side that can be used to personalize the email to the recipient, for example, add the name of the deceased, the observance date, and prayer service times (if applicable):

Review the subject, text, email sender and mail tags. Send a test email, which will choose one recipient at random, and send the admin an email exactly as it would appear to recipient.
Selecting 'Send' will start processing the email and will redirect back to the email dashboard.
