NACHA, the authority that oversees ACH payments, has been implementing stricter measures for processing ACH (eCheck) payments (more Information). To comply with these rules, businesses must verify and validate payer bank account information BEFORE processing the first ACH payment. This is accomplished either by using a Micro Deposit or a tool such as Plaid.
The value of Plaid is that it performs real-time validation, making the payment method immediately available for use.
This feature is available but the default “state” is set to “No”. The synagogue will have to turn on “Allow Plaid” to have this feature available.
1. Enable Plaid
- Admin Menu/Settings/Edit Settings/Credit Card Display/Allow Plaid
- Select “Yes” then click on “Update Settings”
2. Add new payment method using Plaid (must be completed by congregant)
- Click on "Payment Methods" menu option within an account
- Click on "Add New Payment Method" then click on "Add payment method to this gateway"
3. Select “E-Check" then click on “Choose Account with PLAID” and click on “Continue”
- Enter bank name in the Search bar/Enter bank login ID & Password/Click “Submit”
NOTE: Screen updates with “Sending credentials” message - Select desired account by clicking button to left of the account then clicking “Continue”
NOTE: Below “Account Type” the message “Your account ending in xxxx has been chosen.” appears
- Complete the name and address details
- Click “Save Payment Method”
- Credit Cards screen is refreshed with new saved payment methods. Accounts validated via Plaid have the Plaid logo and name w/in the saved payment method box
4. If congregant’s bank is not visible or the congregant cancels the Plaid process they will have the option to add the payment method manually by clicking on “Didn’t see your bank in Plaid?”. This will present the traditional screen to manually add the congregant’s banking information and validate via Micro Deposits
Managing Member Data Shared With Plaid
In 2021 Plaid introduced a new way for individuals to connections created as part of the validation process. End users (the individuals who used Plaid validation) can view and control these and any other connections from use outside of ShulCloud using the Plaid Portal.
