Windows 10 SmartScreen Issue
A recent update to Windows 10 (version 1803) created an issue with certain types of applications. ShulCloud QuickBooks Sync is an example of an application that has been affected. If you did not get the screen in Step 7 automatically, please follow these directions:
- In the Windows taskbar at the bottom right of the screen (next to the time/date), click the small up-arrow to reveal all the icons of programs running in the background. Find the icon for Windows Defender.
- Right-click this icon (there may not be a yellow triangle), then click View Security Dashboard in the sub-menu that pops up.
- On the following screen, click App & browser control (your screen may look slightly different)
- On the next screen, for the section labelled “Check apps and files”, change the setting from “Warn” or “Block” to “Off”, as shown with the red arrow (you will switch this back later).
- On the next screen, for the section labelled “Check apps and files”, change the setting from “Warn” or “Block” to “Off”, as shown with the red arrow (you will switch this back later). After making this change, you will be be asked to confirm by the next screen, as shown below - answer Yes.
- Look on your Desktop for an icon labelled ShulCloud QuickBooks Sync. Double-click the icon. You will receive the screen below. Make sure you UNcheck the option to Always ask before opening this file, then click Run.
- Return to Step 7 above to complete the initial sync.
- Once you have closed the sync application, return to Step 1 in this section to return the SmartScreen setting to its former value. This is a worthwhile security measure in Windows to keep enabled.
