FAQ
Due to the newly established rules by Visa and Mastercard affecting the USA and Canada ShulCloud will be implementing new processes. In this article we will take you through some frequently asked questions.
Question | Will the donated fee be tax deductible for the payer? |
Answer | You can set the tax deductibility on the charge type. |
Question | If a gateway is set to always charge the fee, is that fee considered a donation? |
Answer | The fee will be called a Surcharge to comply with the Credit Card rules, but it is not different from the previous Convenience fee. Consult your tax professionals for any tax advice. |
Question | Will the ShulCloud integrated invoice still charge us for items that we can no longer charge to payers? EX: Fee on fee, debit & prepaid cards) |
Answer | Yes |
Question | Does the SIP Gateway know if someone is using a debit card or prepaid card? |
Answer | Yes, it does after the person presses Submit. The fee will not be charged to the payer. |
Question | What is the SIP fee that we are charged for debit or prepaid cards? |
Answer | Your SIP fees for these cards (i.e. Visa/Mastercard/Discover/AmEx) will remain the same. |
Question | Is the SIP fee, when there is a payer fee collected still on the total amount, paid? |
Answer | Yes |
Question | How do we distinguish between debit cards and credit cards in the payment methods? |
Answer | You don't but the processer determines this at the time of charging. |
Question | Can we restrict the use of debit cards or prepaid cards? |
Answer |
This is not allowed by the credit card company rules. |
Question | Will we be charged SIP fees for debit card payments that we cannot recover? |
Answer | The SIP fees for payments will remain the same. You cannot pass on these fees to someone paying with a debit card when the fee is mandatory. |
Question | We are in Canada. Can we charge fees on Amex and Discover? |
Answer | Not if the fee is mandatory. |
Question | If we are located in the USA or Canada and have a non-SIP gateway that presently requires the fee, will this still be allowed? |
Answer | No, non-SIP gateways in ShulCloud will be automatically changed to Ask the Payer in the USA and Canada. |
Question | Do you need two separate gateways for the Mandatory fee and the Voluntary Fee? Can you do both at the same time? |
Answer | Each gateway is only allowed to have one fee setting; either mandatory OR voluntary. You can have more than one gateway at a time with one set to mandatory for certain charge types and one set to voluntary for other charge types. If the payer is trying to pay for multiple charges and those charges don't exist on the same gateway, the payor will not be able to complete their check out. The payment for these charges would need to be processed separately. |
Question | What happens with already scheduled recurring payments? |
Answer | Recurring payments will follow the fee settings at the time the payment schedule was created through the duration of the schedule. |
Question | Will the [fee_details] token include both the surcharge fee and the donation fee? |
Answer | Yes, it will show whichever fee charge type has been used. |
Question | Will our monthly invoices from SIP now show the breakout of charges assessed for debit/prepaid cards? |
Answer | No, invoices will not be changing. |
Question | Can I collect a fee on ACH? Is mandatory or voluntary? |
Answer | Yes, you can charge a fee and weather it is mandatory or voluntary will depend on your gateway settings. |
